| Can
wine and beer tastings attract interest during a cruise in
the Caribbean? Would people come and enjoy themselves when they weren’t
sun bathing on the deck or in the casinos trying to win big at the
slots or black jack tables?
Norwegian Cruise Lines chose Raleigh NC’s very own wine
and beer educator Mike Crusenberry to put together a series of
wine, beer, and food pairings as a part of their Special Events
program aboard the Norwegian Majesty.
The first 2 days at sea featured pre-noon beer tastings,
and early afternoon wine tastings paired with light appetizers
from the chefs of the 4 restaurants aboard the ship. “The
attendance was outstanding”, said Evaristo Lucente, the Bar
Director on board the Majesty.
“The guests enjoyed the first 4 scheduled events so much,
that they lobbied unanimously for Mike to come back and do another
event on the last day at sea”.
For the grand finale, Mike collected the Friday night dish
specials from each of the 4 restaurants, and chose “Wines And
Beers For Our Friday Grand Finalé” based upon what was on the
ship’s list in good supply. |

Just how well
did we do? “Our
wine and beer sales increased an average of 25-30% each night”,
said Carole, the head bar staff manager of Seven Seas, one of the
exquisite restaurants on the ship.
“The lounge and pool side bars were getting more requests
for beers and wines in Mike’s events than we were prepared for,
so we had to do a major restocking from the ship’s galley”.
(Feel free to read Evar’s own Letter
of Recommendation).
It was a
tremendous please meeting people from all over the US, Europe, and
Canada; from all backgrounds, business owners, newlyweds, and wine
and beer novices and experienced.
A special thanks to the bar staff of the Majesty – I
enjoyed working with you, and hope to see you all again on the
next voyage in March 2007!
